Welcome to my blog; "So What's The Catch?" Here you will find blog postings by myself, Shan Marie, relating to living a life with Christ. You may be wondering why the title "So What's The Catch?" and what does it mean. I'll answer that for you now.
Years ago, God laid on my heart to write a Spiritual Guidance book. I questioned God on this. I asked why He would request such a thing of me. With all that I had done in my life. All of the wrong things and bad decisions; how could I possibly help anyone. God assured me that I could never do enough for Him to stop loving me and that He can use anyone. He also told me that it is not about me but about His Glorification.
So I asked what I would write about and what would I call it. God went silent. The next day I was studying the Word of God and reading Romans chapter 8. When I got to verse 17, it read... "And if [we are His] children, [then we are His] heirs also: heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ [sharing His spiritual blessing and inheritance], if indeed we share in His suffering so that we may also share in His glory." (Amplified)
It was at that point when God simply said, "So what's the catch?" I stopped reading and listened closely (with my Spiritual ears). He said it again, "so what's the catch?" I closed the Bible and waited. God then said, "Everyone wants the benefits of being a child of God but no one wants to carry their cross. Meaning, we want the rewards but we don't want to work for them. We [Believers of Christ] want everything given to us. No tears, sweat or issues of any kind. That's not how life works.
So where does one start as a Child of God [an heir to the promises of Christ Jesus]? First we must understand who God is and what is expected of His children. All of this is found in the Bible, of course, but sometimes we need to hear things from other sources just to get the ball rolling. That's where the willing vessels for Christ come in. I decided that I would be a willing vessel for the Almighty. That means making myself available to Him for whatever He needs me to do. In being a vessel for Him, I in-turn become a minister for Him. How does one minister? Through words and actions. Why not use my talent to glorify God and help someone in the process?
Since I had been back and forth with my walk with Christ, I felt the need to minister to people just like me. Those that had dedicated their lives to Christ - then fell short or fell off completely. Also, people who are just coming into Christ and are spiritual babies. I want people to know that this life is nothing easy but God gives us the strength to keep going. I want to share that I am not perfect and will never be but I chose to keep striving for peace. Therefore, I decided to center the book around people like me; once lost but now found. Believers that have given up but know that there is no place like in the arms of God. People that struggle with their walk and need a little encouragement.
Although, "So What's The Catch?" is yet to be completed, this blog is a great introduction. My prayer is that just one person is touched by the testimonies and experiences I will share here.
